This group of paintings is described as highly technical- complex hidden mechanisms activated them.
The imagery here is less painterly, though there is considerable use of paint. Though the works are so complex in a physical sense, there are paradoxical, slightly sardonic objects full of jokes and surprises.
Most of the “Beyond the Edge” works use mechanical motion. Be it a concave mirror moving in irregular motion when sensing an observer, tentacles moving across the horizontal space, or ‘heartbeat’ pulsation and a little lump moving randomly.
The “Beyond the Edge” series combines playfulness with the impulse to question the nature and purposes of art. It also shows a characteristic impatience with artistic categorizations.
