Alexander’s early paintings split into several related series: Entropy, Lines of Force, Metempiric, and Fifth Dimension. These paintings belong to an established tradition in post-WWII art, more like continental European art than anything British or American.
One striking aspect of the paintings is that they invite us to look at them, but at the same time, to look through them. From his early works, Alexander strived to break through the surface of the visible into something existing beyond it.
